Marcellus Williams’ execution is nothing short of a modern-day lynching, carried out under the guise of justice, but rooted deeply in the same systems of oppression that have brutalized Black people for centuries. Black Lives Matter Grassroots is demanding the passage of meaningful legislation and is standing with her family in calling for justice for Sonya Massey. Massey, a 36-year old Black mother of two had her life stolen by Sangamon County sheriff’s deputies after she called 911 for help when she believed a prowler was stalking her home.

Mainstream media’s reports on the story fail the fact-check test as Black Lives Matter Grassroots has a policy of never endorsing candidates and has no Rhode Island Chapter.

As the world is faced with deep questions about self-determination, as we all desire and pray for a world of peace,, we must stand unwaveringly on the side of the oppressed. When a people have been subject to decades of apartheid and unimaginable violence, their resistance must not be condemned, but understood as a desperate act of self-defense.

We grieve alongside the family and loved ones of Tyre Nichols. There is no such thing as justice for Tyre because justice would mean that he was still here to raise his young child, share beautiful photographs, ride his skateboard, love on his parents, and step into his fullest self.

The family of #KeenanAnderson continues to grieve and fight after their loved one was murdered after LAPD tasered him 6 times in about 40 seconds. Keenan was seeking help after an auto accident and it ended in his death. This is unacceptable.
