"Wakiesha's Law"

Wakiesha's Law is named after Wakiesha Wilson, a 37-year-old Black mama who died while in custody. This bill is a common-sense measure that requires basic human decency. If a person dies, is seriously injured or becomes seriously ill, in-custody (in prison/jail/police custody), someone from the facility must notify the family within 24 hours.

BILL TO END THE FEDERAL DEATH PENALTY

The Federal Death Penalty Prohibition Act of 2023 would end the use of the death penalty by the federal government. Specifically, the bill would prohibit the imposition of the death penalty as punishment for any violation of federal law and would require the re-sentencing of those previously sentenced to death row.

The End Solitary Confinement Act will prohibit the use of solitary confinement, except for up to a max of four hours, and create safe alternatives to a common US practice understood across the world as a form or torture.

This bill prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or race-related characteristics in schools, businesses, federally funded programs, and other settings. It also provides statutory authority for and expands the types of civil actions that may be brought for violations.

The Helping Families Heal Act is first-of-its-kind legislation to fund mental health resources to support those impacted by police violence. No government-funded programs exist to specifically provide mental health support for the victims and survivors of police brutality.
