Zaynab Mohamed – Member of the Minnesota State

Today we honor Zaynab Mohamed, her remarkable achievements, and invaluable contributions to her community. Her story is a testament to the strength and resilience of Black immigrants and the power of community organizing.
As one who was raised in a working-class Somali immigrant family in Minneapolis, Zaynab dedicated herself to serving and advocating for her community. Her unwavering commitment to justice and equity has now led to a historic moment, as, at 25-years old, she serves as the youngest woman elected into the Minnesota legislature.

Zaynab emerged as an activist, advocate, and organizer during the Trump Administration, working with an organization dedicated to elevating Black immigrant women into political and civic participation. During the COVID-19 crisis, she organized with the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) to flip the Minnesota Senate, fighting for equitable relief for those most affected by the pandemic.

Her passion for justice led her to become the Community Advocacy Director at Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN), where she fought for meaningful statewide legislation to hold police accountable and create a system of public safety designed for all. She worked tirelessly with a coalition of advocates, organizers, legislators, and families who had lost loved ones to police violence to pass eight common-sense bills to expand public safety and strengthen police accountability.

She is a true champion for her community, and her contributions have made a lasting impact on the lives of countless people.

Her unwavering commitment to justice and equity serves as a reminder of the power of community organizing and the importance of lifting those who are often marginalized and underserved.

The state plans to cage him, stomp out his infinite potential, and deprive the world of his light until he is 54 years-old.
